The Spirits are EverywhereThe episode begins in the evening where Fam & Iri have set up camp for the night. Iri is trying to make Fam remember a spell but Fam apparently keeps forgetting lines so Iri winds up thumping Fam over the head in exasperation. Iri reminds Fam that even though they now have the seal, they still have to get the two other treasures in order to get the Power. Fam looks forlorn and silently reproaches Iri for her fixation on getting the Power. Iri in the meantime is still scolding Fam and says that she can't count on Fam to do anything. This obviously pisses Fam off and she starts packing up her stuff. Iri asks her what she's doing and Fam replies that if Iri was gonna be like that, then she'll just continue on by herself. Iri obviously has seen this ploy before and isn't fazed a bit. Fam is leaving the campsite but stops twice to threaten that she really is leaving and isn't going to come back. Iri prepares for bed. Upset, Fam calls Iri an idiot and runs off into the darkness. Fam winds up sitting on a flat rock next to a lake and she's already regretting having left. But she firms up and says that she won't go back until Iri realizes that she can't use magic unless Fam is with her. While she's thinking about it, a horse whinnying suddenly attracts her attention down to the lake shore where she sees a cloaked and hooded figure standing next to a horse. The figure is watching the horse drink from the lake. Fam stares curiously at the two for a while until the figure suddenly looks up with a wild-looking gaze and notices her. Fam gets weirded out by the figure, protests that she's not carrying any valuables and that she's not tasty to eat if the figure just happened to like to eat elves and starts to beat a hasty retreat. An amused laugh stops her in her tracks. The figure throws back his hood to reveal a handsome young man with dark hair. The man gives the standard warning about how dangerous it is for a woman to run around in the woods in the dark. Fam stares at the guy for a while and he smiles happily at her. In the morning, we are back with Iri who's tossing items from her pack all over the place. She's obviously displeased about something and is blaming Fam for it. Pan to a far view of a small town. Iri walks into town with her stomach growling. Apparently Fam had taken not only the Family Seal, but all the food and money as well with her. She's obviously tired and hungry. While she's standing in the middle of a road, she suddenly hears a familiar voice... Gulf is behind a nearby stand trying to hawk some wares to some bystanders when he suddenly looks back around to see Iri right in his face. Iri grins evilly and Gulf starts to pack up in a hurry to run away. But Iri snags him from behind. Gulf whines about how he hasn't done anything wrong and that he's turned over a new leaf. He also offers to do anything for Iri. Iri is about to tell him what she wants when her stomach growls loudly again. Gulf hears it too and grins; much to Iri's chagrin. Gulf takes Iri to a local inn where she has to work as a serving wench in a cute but slightly revealing, short-skirted dress for a while in exchange for food. She wants to eat first but the innkeeper will only feed her after she's worked. Both Gulf and his dog look amused at the turn of events. Iri gets her first order to take over to customers and she has to force herself not to eat the food. When she takes the food to the table though, she's stunned to see Rasha and Miguel sitting there. Rasha and Miguel look pretty surprised as well at first until they burst out laughing at Iri in her outfit. Miguel promptly gets creamed with the plate of food to the head. Rasha counterattacks by throwing her wine at Iri but misses. Rasha calls on Miguel for help and he gets up off the floor after apparently ingesting the entire chicken that he got hit with. They corner Iri in front of the bar and demand that she give back the seal. Iri tells them that Fam had taken it but they don't believe her. Right then, the innkeeper, who's a really big, burly man, steps in and warns Rasha and Miguel to stop harrassing his help. Iri, taking the opportunity, runs off and Rasha chases after her. Miguel, seeing that the innkeeper is looking at Rasha and Iri running away, takes a swing at him but the innkeeper looks back in time to dodge the blow and delivers a massive face-caving counterpunch. Miguel shakes it off and both of 'em prepare for a fistfight. Outside, Fam and the guy she just met, Lyle, ride into town. Lyle asks her if it's really alright for her to leave Iri like that and Fam replies that Iri is really strong so she should be able to take care of herself. Fam asks if she's just bothering him by being with him but he replies in the negative. Apparently some people had sold him a bad map so he was lost in the forest and Fam helped him find his way out. They ride past the inn but don't notice the commotion going on inside as Miguel and the innkeeper seem to have really gone at it for a while. Both their faces are puffed up and bleeding but they still have enough grace to complement each other on being good fighters. In the meantime, Rasha has just cornered Iri in an upstairs room and is about to blast her with a spell when she's knocked off balance by Gulf who looks like he's trying to run away. Iri starts to cast her own spell as Rasha tries to recover. Downstairs, the innkeeper and Miguel has just landed simultaneous blows to the face on each other. Iri finally casts her spell which creates a whirlwind that blasts Rasha through the floor and onto Miguel and the innkeeper. At the edge of the new hole in the ceiling, a small grey mouse looks down at the aftermath below. All three combatants seem to be unconscious. This is when you first find out about Iri's curse. If she casts any magic, she gets turned into a mouse. While she's ranting about her curse, Gulf's dog walks up behind her and growls. She snaps out of her thoughts and looks pretty worried. Meanwhile, down below, Rasha has regained consciousness and is busy slapping the still-unconscious Miguel around. Suddenly, Iri as the mouse, falls on her head and hangs upside down from the top of her head so that they're both at eye level. They stare at each other for a while until Rasha completely flips out, races out of the inn, down the street, and out of town; covering about 2 miles in a second. Miguel stumbles out onto the street after her. Iri then runs back up to the second floor just in time to see Gulf going through her pack. Gulf pulls a little glass bottle out of the pack, wonders if it's medicine, and tosses it aside. This makes Iri really happy until she notices Gulf's dog behind her again. The dog chases her under a table but she's able to drag the bottle under the table as well. Gulf is still going through her pack looking for any valuables but not finding any. A pissed off Iri, in her normal form but swathed in a tablecloth and holding up Gulf's dog by the scruff, reappears again behind Gulf and asks him what he's doing. Gulf, getting nervous, replies that he was just straightening things up. Not buying it, Iri beats on him and the dog for a while. Later, in the alley next to the inn, Iri is interrogating Gulf while having her long-awaited meal. Gulf is telling her about how the second treasure is nearby in an underground city called Saerium. Later on that night, Fam and Lyle have camped in a rocky clearing and Lyle is examining the family seal that Fam has just given him. He wonders if it's alright for her to give it to him without consulting Iri first. Fam looks annoyed and says that it's okay since Iri is short-tempered and that she's probably forgotten about it already. Lyle thanks her. Fam then asks Lyle why he's after the Power. Staring into the campfire, Lyle replies that he's not really after the Power. But he doesn't elaborate further. The next morning, Iri is following Gulf through the forests as they're headed to Saerium. They are being closely and secretly followed by Rasha and Miguel who plan to take the second treasure when Iri and Gulf finds it. Iri notices that someone is following them but thinks that it's Fam so she starts leaving helpful clues along the way as to which direction they're headed. Rasha, thinking that Iri is trying to fool them, doesn't believe in the clues and starts heading off in another direction until she runs into a rather large pack of mice munching on some food. She faints dead away. Iri and Gulf have managed to reach a cliff overlooking the ruins of Saerium. It looks like a gigantic tree had landed on the city and its roots were now covering it. They head into the ruins. Within the ruins, Fam is giggling happily and spinning around in circles as a couple of blue lights flit around her. Lyle asks if she's having fun and Fam says yes because there are a lot spirits around here. Lyle replies that the Whelan Clan was very close to the spirits. Fam notices that the spirits look frightened though and asks how the city was destroyed. By war. Two individuals had wanted the Power and they fought. The people of the city also rose up to fight so the war got dragged on for even longer. One of the individuals tried to stop the war too quickly by magical means but the people went mad and Saerium was destroyed in a split second. Lyle goes on to lament the fact that one basically doesn't know the importance of an individual or a group of individuals until they are lost forever. He tells Fam to tell Iri how she feels before it's too late. Suddenly, they find themselves surrounded by a bunch of mono-eyed, unnatural-looking, animate creatures with scythe-like arms. In another part of the ruins, Iri and Gulf are looking around. Gulf asks if Iri can use her magic to warm the place up but Iri refuses, saying that her magic won't work unless Fam was around. In yet another part of the ruins, Rasha is looking pretty mad after losing track of Iri and Gulf. She decides to just head downward since treasures are usually located at the bottom. As they prepare to head off again, she suddenly steps on a brick that sinks into the ground. They look at each other and laugh nervously as the world begins to shake around them. Meanwhile, Iri and Gulf have found themselves in a circular room with the only exits leading upwards. As they're arguing about which way to go, they hear a woman screaming and look up just in time to see Rasha and Miguel hurtling down towards them. Right before they hit the ground, the ground here also gives way so all four of them go hurtling down into a void. Lyle is slicing away at the creatures but there are just too many of them. Fam wonders why she can't communicate with them with her magic and Lyle says that they're really not alive, that they're only magical constructs. Lyle knows the person who created these beings. Suddenly, Iri, Gulf, Rasha, and Miguel falls smack down on top of a big pile of the magical creatures. Iri lands on top of Rasha and when Rasha regains her bearings, she accuses Iri of being gay and they start into a little fight. Miguel on the other hand, has already started to fight the magical constructs and he yells at them to stop fighting each other since they have a bigger problem at hand. Rasha gets cornered by one of the creatures but is saved when Lyle cuts it down from behind. Lyle grabs Rasha and tells her to stay behind him. Rasha is too startled at first to do anything but comply but when she takes a closer look at him, she suddenly gets all googly-eyed; much to Fam's displeasure. Iri is fighting a one-on-one battle with one of the creatures until Miguel comes by and takes it out along with about 5 others. Unfortunately, the sliced creatures start to reform themselves. Realizing that physical damage wasn't going to work, Iri yells at Fam to use her magic. Fam, still upset about Iri's comment at the beginning, just looks at her hurtfully. Iri, understanding the look, apologizes for her comment and tells Fam that she needs her as a partner. Fam, happier now, then casts a spell that demolishes a big swath of the of monsters. Lyle is impressed and Fam laughs happily until she's shoved aside by Rasha who casts her own spell which rips up blocks from the floor and smashes into the creatures. This of course has the undesired side effect of weakening the floor so that it basically falls apart and sends everyone hurtling into darkness. When everyone comes to, Rasha is cooing in Lyle's arms and Fam doesn't like it one bit. So they start yelling at each other. Rasha tries to introduce herself to Lyle but Fam becomes an unwelcome and very close side presence so Rasha pushes her away by her face. Fam retaliates by chomping down on Rasha's arm which causes Rasha to screech in pain and shake her arm furiously in an attempt to detach Fam. Thus they get into a big fight over Lyle. Unfortunately for Miguel, they're having this big fight on top of him so he gets really hacked off and yells at 'em to quit it. Cowed by his anger, they stop quickly. After they've recovered, they start walking down a corridor and Lyle informs them that he's actually following his enemy, the person who created those magical constructs that they were just fighting. This enemy is also looking for the Power. So if Lyle can find the Power, he'll be sure to find his enemy. Iri asks Fam why they don't just leave while they still can but Fam refuses, saying that she wants to stay with Lyle. Then Fam asks Gulf if he was the one who sold the bad map to Lyle that got him lost in the woods. Gulf looks guilty and Iri yells at him. They reach a set of reddish doors which slide open into another large, high, circular chamber with tree roots climbing all over the walls. At one end of the room, the Sword of Sargus stands glowing with a blue light, stuck into the floor. As they're admiring the view, an evil, cold laughter diverts their attention to a dark, shrouded figure near the top of the room. The figure asks Lyle if they had fun fighting the magical constructs and addresses him as Prince. Rasha looks questioningly at Lyle so Lyle admits that his name is Lyle Rebaruto Ria, son of King Ria, and that the figure, Ruguduru, is the one who killed his father and destroyed his country. Gulf seems to recognize the name and looks apprehensive. Miguel asks him what he knows and Gulf says that Ruguduru is the man who conquered the north continent single-handedly and calls him a demon. Ruguduru then teleports in front of Lyle who promptly sticks his sword into him. This doesn't affect Ruguduru at all and he blasts Lyle away from him. Rasha tries to take him out with a fire spell but Ruguduru counters with his own spell that absorbs Rasha's. Ruguduru then looks at the sword and back towards the group and says that he'll leave the sword with them for now. But he'll be back. Then he disappears with an echoing laugh. Iri is thinking about how tough an opponent he will be since he can cast spells without even saying a word. Rasha meanwhile uses her magic to heal Lyle. Iri then tries to touch the sword but is repelled by the blue aura surrounding it. Rasha pushes her aside and tries but she too is rejected. She calls Miguel over to try it and he looks all fired up and ready to go but when he tries to grab he, he gets fried. Watching the proceedings, Gulf suddenly comments that he's heard that anyone with a vicious mind can't touch the sword. So Fam offers to try. She manages to get her hand on the hilt but seems to have a bit of trouble as a blinding light envelopes her. When she opens her eyes, she finds herself nude in a shimmering, golden plane with a voice telling her to tell it her hope. She figures out that she's talking to the sword and asks why the sword is only talking to her. The sword replies that her spirit is comfortable and that it likes her because she's not like the people who destroyed the town. Fam asks if she can ask it anything and the sword says yes. Back in the real world, the sword releases itself from the ground and floats in the air behind Fam. Iri rushes forward to ask Fam if she's okay. Fam says yes and that she was just talking to the spirit, Sargus. Suddenly, the sword floats over to Lyle and settles into his hands. Iri looks at Fam for an explanation and Fam apologizes, saying that she had asked the sword to help Lyle. Iri and Miguel don't look too happy as Miguel realizes that this means that in order for them to get the Power, they'll definitely have to face Ruguduru again. Rasha is unfazed and snuggles up to Lyle, saying that she'd be more than happy to help him. Lyle shrugs her off and thanks Fam. Fam apologizes to a still stunned-looking Iri but Iri smiles and says it's alright with her. Fam asks if that meant Iri still wanted her as a partner and Iri agrees. Tearful, Fam thanks Iri and hugs her. Meanwhile, Lyle thanks everyone there but Miguel says he isn't going anywhere. Naturally he gets clobbered by Rasha who then tries to cover for him by saying that he was just joking around. As they're leaving the ruins behind, Iri turns around and asks Gulf why he's following them. With a grin, Gulf just asks her to let him join the group. Iri looks at him for a second, smiles, and says sure, if he wanted to. The dog snickers mischeviously. The episode ends with the group watching the sun set and Iri giving the following monologue: The magician Rasha and the egotistical swordsman Miguel. And now Prince Lyle, of the destroyed kingdom Rebaruto. And Gulf and his dog Gill. It's a trip looking for the Power, but we have to fight Ruguduru first. I'm not sure that even all of us together can defeat him.' End of Episode 2[Synopses][Turn 1][Turn 3] This page created and maintained by Ben Cheng.
